Broken and broke

I have just returned from spending a week at my sister’s house in France. She lives just south of Cherbourg and I know for a fact that they experienced much the same winter as we did. In fact, when the snow came, they had much more snow. During my stay in France, I drove on motorways, major roads, minor roads and country lanes, some little more than farm tracks. One fact struck me on returning home; not once had I come across a pothole. In contrast, UK roads are badly built, poorly maintained and frequently vandalised by utility companies who fail to make good when they carry out repairs. What is wrong with this country?

What is wrong with this country? It's cloud cuckoo land. It has/had a prime minister who as chancellor sold its gold reserves at an all time low for gold. It has/had a prime minister who by making good the gambling losses of bankers on million pound bonuses put each and every one of us £20,000 in debt. It has/had a prime minister who devalued our currency by 40%. It has/had a prime minister whose job creation schemes mean that half the working population works directly or indirectly for the state (65% in Scotland). While other countries like France have efficient nuclear power, the UK has not reinvested and is having to shut down nuclear power stations, relying instead on heavily polluting coal and oil powered power stations that are totally inadequate for our future needs. Yet it tries to push people into inefficient, ridiculously expensive electric cars. It is spending billions on an Olympic Games that is completely unaffordable. It spent millions impeding roads with obstructions when it should have spent those millions repairing them. It spent millions on traffic management systems no one needs, but which have made some people very rich indeed. How much more do you need me to tell you about what is wrong with this country?
