Pressure crooked

I have heard that the 2.0 TDi (PD) engine in the 2005 VW Passat has a tendency for the oil pump drive to fail suddenly at around 70,000 - 90,000 miles. Is this a known fault? If so, has it been rectified in the later 2.0 TDi common rail diesel?

Known fault, usually because the strainer gets blocked in the sump because of the Longlife oil change regime. If you change the oil and filter every 7k – 8k miles then it probably won't happen.
