Blinged prejudice

I am thinking of buying a Mazda6. I read your Mazda6 2.2 Diesel road test on the web site, which is generally very positive, however, at one point you comment, "it manages all this with impressive seat and ride comfort, despite 215/50 R17 tyres (I don't recommend going up to 18")." The model I am considering buying (Mazda6 Sport) comes with 18" wheels as standard. Can you tell me the kind of problems you think I might encounter?

Yes, poor ride quality, sliding in snow, aquaplaning in very wet
conditions, wheel damage and punctures that may not be repairable by the can of goo they give you. That said, Ford has achieved impressive ride quality in the S-Max on 45 profile 18" tyres, and they stood up to some extremely nasty potholes on test in Spain.
