Threedom’s just another word
Friends have finally decided to buy a car. They are prosperous and looking to buy new, no P/X, good for the economy. I recommended him a Honda FR-V when he asked for advice 18 months ago but now see that according to the CBC guide, production has ceased. Is there anything else similar? They need 6 seats but not in 3 rows. I actually suggested buying something 2nd hand (not an FR-V, just something practical) to get his wife used to London motoring and get the 1st prangs in. (He doesn't drive, he rides a scooter.) But they will buy new.

Production has ended. There may still be a few new and unregistered in the system. But demand is quite strong and used prices are so far holding up very well. I guess this will continue for a year or two. The only other 3 + 3 is the FIAT Multipla. Plenty of decent 5 seater and 7 seater MPVs, though. New Ford C-Max and new Mazda 5 due later this year. The nicest MPV to driver is the Ford S-Max. Tested at:

We are looking for a Ford seven-seater. Should we go for the C-Max or S-Max? And which model?

I need a good-sized 5-seater with occasional seats for 7 to replace my VW Touran. We have test driven both the Ford S-Max and Hyundai Santa Fe but cannot decide. Which is better in terms of refinement...

Better quality than original. Rides well. Strong MultiJet diesel engines.

Clever way to carry 6 in 2 rows, like a Multipla, but with Honda quality. 1.8, 2.0 and 2.2 all chain cam engines.

Seven seats. Sliding side doors. Compliant suspension is superb on poor road surfaces.

Neat styling. More practical than a Ford Focus. Fine blend of ride comfort, handling and driver enjoyment. High-quality interior.
