Toyota has done an excellent job of marketing itself as a manufacturer of hybrid cars. It says that - while it will introduce pure EVs in the future - at the moment it's concentrating its resources (namely the supply of batteries) on hybrids. It makes sense as EVs sell in small numbers and, for most people, hybrids continue to be a better compromise. I'm sure that will change in the future.
