What sort of lies are you getting from them?  if I want a car I simply go to the deal say I want that car and buy it.  There is no pint where they can lie to me as I don't ask them any questions. Its an old piece of hardware now. I think they used a 40GB HDD and they eventually go kaputt. Go to the supermarket and you’ll get about 3 or 4 bags for life in there, after that it’s full. Mrs Tim had a Fiesta until a few months ago, the boot in that was much more useable. And as I said, a smaller boot has benefits for rear seat passengers. You'll be paying mostly for the badge- older "premium" brand cars are quite in demand for impressing tbe neighbours. I just had a little search on Autotrader for Q3's using an £8.5k budget, petrol engine, up to 80k miles and no insurance write offs. There is a grand total of one, nationwide (a 2012 example)!. Hmm, that comment is both unfair and inaccurate.   The Baleno came out in 2016 and had a 355 litre boot capacity. The only other contemporary car of that size category which could equal it was the Jazz, everything else (Fiesta, Polo, Clio, Yaris, Fabia, Ibiza, 208, etc) had smaller boot capacity. And apart from the Yaris and Jazz (both of which were exactly the same length as the Baleno), all those other cars are (slightly longer). Even if you look at current versions, only the Ibiza equals the Baleno's boot capacity, the rest are all smaller (albeit not by much), including the Jazz who's boot has shrunk to 300 litres. She bought it from my mum four years ago when my mum gave up driving. With the exception of having a stone through the air conditioning compressor, nothing has gone wrong with it, it’s had routine servicing and maintenance and needed nothing else. We will replace the tyres this year as they will be 8 years old (car is 2016 model, and is very low mileage for the year). It easily does well over 50mpg, closer to 60 on a run and is comfortable. The Apple Car Play connection works well, so no need to update the maps on the cars SD card. Criticism? The boot is quite small for the size of car, but that does translate into good space for passengers. It’s not a car I would buy, but my daughter loves it and having just asked her, would highly recommend one! I know folks that use a 3 pin plug to run their EV, but they’re low mileage users - at c2.2kW output, it’ll take 24 hours to fully charge a 40kW/h battery. Be aware that LEAF does use a charging socket that isn’t now the most common (putting it mildly) on public chargers, so any search for amps will have to be filtered to look for Chademo connections. You will find them in the wild at existing sites, but I don’t see many being installed now. Re ground clearance, the info I can find says 200mm for the Jogger and 205mm for the Duster, so very little difference.  Re tyre size, the info I can find says 205/60x16 for the Jogger which is pretty decent for a modern car giving a sidewall height of 123mm. The Duster sits on 215/65x16 giving a sidewall height of 140mm, so a bigger difference than the ground clearance but not huge. I was thinking of finding the nearest one to me first to have a sit in and just get a general feel for the car and then travelling further if needed to get the right car/deal. Thanks for the tips about the MK II's, I'll have another look at the finances as the extra range looks like I'd only need the 1 charge doing the Oxford runs which would be well worth it to avoid complains from the wife and kids! There's plenty on Auto trader with 40-60,000 miles on them in that price bracket and I've got the app downloaded in anticipation of checking out battery health. Have you had a home charger installed or do you just use the 3 pin mains? I asked him about £20 petrol charge….   Me: I’m not paying £20 petrol charge. Sales: Oh every car comes with empty tank so we have to charge customer £20 and we fill some petrol in…. Me: Don’t bother.  There’s Shell 500m down the road from here. Sales: I don’t think you can’t get there…. Me: I can bring jelly can with me then… Sales: You can’t bring in petrol in our premise for Health & Safety Reason. Me: That’s fine.  I’ll do it outside in the street. Its oil consumption (piston ring design and poor materials), injector problems etc etc. Almost every component of the engine is sub-par. There were supposed to be manufacturing changes made in late 2020/early 21.  We'll see how they pan out. There are now millions of these award winning 1.2 puretech engines all over the globe in various Stellantis models  (30 Jan 2019 — PSA says 3.8 million PureTech engines have been produced to date) - are they really that bad?  I'm watching my own carefully run in engine's oil consumption which at a mere 25,000 miles is so far very low.  It was changed at the one-year-old 'first service' (allegedly) at  5500 miles and again by me at 10k and 20k miles, using correct spec oil and filters. The PureTech does drive well and its a nice engine when running properly. But with so many shortcomings why would you choose to buy one? Because I thought the 130hp was a well designed modern engine (with its reputation ruined by poor materials) coupled with an excellent gearbox (EAT6) resulting in an enjoyable sporty powertrain in a fun to drive good VFM small SUV.  (Fortunately Mrs F liked the car). .... Removing the oil filler cap will enable you to see the belt condition. Tools are available to check belt condition.... Indeed so.  I made one out of a sc*** piece of copper sheeting I had lying around. Dayco are the originator of the BIO drive used by Stellantis (licenced to Gates and Continental). Indeed so.  It's a shame they didn't make their belts fit for purpose for their BIO drive. Their incompetence must have cost Stellantis a fortune in recalls and repairs. Peugeot-supplied belt will be re-packaged Dayco.  They have gone through at least three revisions in the last few years.  Dayco-branded aftermarket belt kits are actually very reasonably priced.  Maybe - but with their reputation I wouldn't touch a Dayco belt with a bargepole.   I'd rather pay more money for a better quality belt if and when the one we have (whatever its make) looks as though it's deteriorating. The problems with wet belts and timing chains is that a lot of people stretch servicing intervals and the acid in the oils eat into them so if you are buying a second hand car make sure it has had the servicing and oil changes at the correct mileage. My late lamented Skywing had very little carbon on the piston crowns and in the ring and oil control grooves, despite being ancient, and running a bit rich by the plug appearance. This could be due to sometimes using liquid water decoking in the running engine ( though I believe this may have caused spalling damage to the cylinder walls, and wouldnt do it again. I would use steam instead, which might have other Smokey Yunik stylee advantages) It could also be due to the use of relatively high viscosity oil with a relatively  high detergent/dispersant content, a relatively low viscosity index improver content, and a relatively low volatility.(I used a 1 to 1 mix of CPC SAE 40 and Mobil Delvac MX 15W40) Low viscosity oils tend to be more volatile, as per the NOAK volatility test, and such volatiles are more likely to be carried over entrained in blowby gases via the crankcase ventilation system and burnt. Low viscosity oils are probably also more likely to pass the piston rings and be burnt directly. Both tendencies will be aggravated by higher compression ratios and turbo-boosting. The Skywing didn't use much oil. The Skywing's engine also got a lot cleaner generally (outside the combustion chamber) during the 10 years or so of my ownership. (as seen under the valve cover and in the sump) loosing the extensive varnish sheets it had when I bought it. This cant be due to steam cleaning or lower volatility (which would only affect the combustion chamber) and probably wasn't down to lower viscosity index improver content either. My guess would be that the relatively high solvency of the Group 1 SAE 40, combined with the dispersancy/detergency of the Delvac, shifted the varnish, while my mileage was too low for extensive oxidation of the inherently less stable non-synthetic oil. All a bit speculative, based on anecdotal evidence, as is yours. But I prefer my anecdote. I've previously had manuals but my wife will only drive automatic and whilst this will be my car, I'd like something she can drive when needed. My previous cars have been Honda CR-V and Mazda 6 both of which I loved but don't necessarily need something as large. I do around 12,000 miles a year, with regular dual carriageway and around town driving. Budget is £15K, and whilst I'm in North East Scotland, I'm happy to travel anywhere in UK.
