VW Golf 1.9 TDi MK5 2005 - Turbo chatter noise - Roy Brown

Hi

I have a 2005 MK5 Golf 1.9 TDi 105bhp and can hear a 'chatter' noise once the accerlator is relased. I fitted a new boost pipe to the turbo (just after the pancake pipe) which seemed to have fixed the 'hiss/whoosh' noise which was more obvious previously, but since then I have been hearing a chatter.

Any ideas welcome

Could it be related to the air intake shut off flap?

Possibly, how would I go about fixing that? Is that part of the EGR?

Depending on engine code,it is located at the front of the engine in the intake pipe.It is a motorised flap that shuts air entering the engine on switch off.I think vw refer to it as an air throttling flap.Replaceu as a complete unit.

Thanks for that I will take a look tomorrow again. I also plugged the car in to the VCDS I have and no fault codes if that makes any difference

I have had a look today and have narrowed down to where the noise is coming from. I think it is coming from the front plastic part of the air filter as shown below (closest to the slam panel) but there was no apparent air leaks around this section and the air filter lid is tight?

The below link shows this section I am referring to

You can take this front/top part off ,it is only a deflector. It is not under any pressure. It should be clipped or screwed on.Give it a go.

Still havent got to the bottom of this noise. I removed the plastic thing but it was already on tight and the noise is coming from inside it, although there is actually noting inside it. It only appears to be where air is drawn in before reaching the airbox?
