This car is a definitely a car aimed at the young and fun. It’s unusual in shape with a curvaceous front, housing funky front fog lights and a flat backside which makes it super easy to park. It sports a fantastic fully electric panoramic roof and sports styling which I think, give it a real appeal for a young female market.

 

The 16V Twingo 1.2 Dynamic comes with a 5 speed manual, multi point fuel injection system and 15 inch alloy wheels too, all for the grand price of just £6,999.

 

Inside the Twingo is in some ways quite similar to the interior of the new mini although the dials are rather oddly positioned. The largest of the dials encased in a chrome bezel is the rev counter, which sits on the steering column, whilst it looks funky, it’s pretty impractical. The petrol guage and speedometer sit in the central dash above the in car stereo system. I found this a tad annoying as you need to give a real turn of the head to you’re your speed. Really, I think the speedometer in any car should always be directly in front of you.

 

The speedo and petrol guage are both digital in the Twingo 1.2 16v Dynamic. Whether you get on with that or not is really about personal preference. I, myself, find a digital petrol guage an annoyance. You never really know exactly how much fuel you have. However, the dials look cool and interesting and I suspect have been designed for their appeal to a younger audience.

 

The Twingo comes with air con, abs, driver and passenger airbags, isofix rear child seat protection and anti submarining seat design and a four star Euro Ncap adult safety rating.

 

I took the Twingo on a couple of longish trips and spent a lot of time with it in and around the city. City driving in the Twingo is great fun, steering is light and visibility is great. It’s little 1.2 engine really enjoys the lights of the big city – so do you through the large panoramic roof. This is a really nice touch on a lovely autumnal day, it is electric and can be easily opened and closed on the move.

 

 The Twingo gets in and out of any tight spot and makes for smooth and easy drive time. It’s also very versatile for the weekly shop with its individual reclining rear sets that enable you to extend the small boot by 22cm if you are minus passengers and need more space in the back for shopping. Alternatively, it makes for a decent amount of leg room in the back should you not need to put anything in the boot. An excellent use of space.

 

As you might expect, with an engine of this size, the Twingo is far happier around town that on the motorway. You feel safe enough at 70mph and don’t get blown around like you can with other small cars but the engine really starts to struggle at anything over 65. It’s very noisy too.

 

I found the Twingo did 49 miles to the gallon on a combined test so I was quite pleased with its efficiency overall and coming in at 135 g/km CO2 it sits in band E VED and will cost you £120 per annum to tax.

 

Honest John describes this car as “quite cute and roomy for four”, I agree with both of those points. It’s a funky little car that will appeal to young people as a first car. It’s not made for distance but is great around town and it can cope with the odd longer journey if it needs to. A super little car which is great value at £6,999 from Motorpoint in Newport.
