The Vauxhall Vectra 1.8i VVT Sri comes with 10 spoke 17inch alloy wheels and with a chrome front grille, full body kit and tinted windows this huge car in lightening silver, looks much more sporty than you might imagine it could.
The interior of this car is enormous, you could fit a junior five a side football team in the back of it without any problem at all, so if it’s a big family car you’re looking for that you could spend many hours in without sitting on top of one another, you’d do well do take a good look the Vauxhall Vectra. I wouldn’t say, that you’d ever be bowled over by the interior of this car. Everything has a very standard feel to it, there’s been no silly spending on trinkets and bling that you will never really need so you can be sure that what you pay for is a good solid chunk of metal that will practically transport you and your family in comfort wherever you might want to go.
Whilst the Vectra doesn’t win any awards for interior styling or kit, it does come with essentials like anti-locking brakes and EBFD (electronic brake force distribution). EBFD changes how much of the braking force goes to the front of the car and how much goes to the rear. The balance required changes depending on how much weight you have in the car. This is particularly useful for a big car like this that could be used as much for the daily commute as to transport the whole family.
I don’t want to be critical of the Vectra because it is a good solid car but I did find it difficult to get excited about it. You certainly wouldn’t use the words inspirational or exhilarating in the same sentence but you would use words like safe, functional and infinitely practical which is as you would expect for a car of this type. It does what it is designed to do and that is to travel distance comfortably and safetly and it does these well.
If you’re looking for a car which will throw you back in your seat as you tear off chasing the Evo in front, this isn’t the car for you. It doesn’t accelerate well in the lower gears, however cruising and overtaking along the motorway is absolutely no problem at all. Handling is ok and the Vectra quite likes cornering so you always feel safe on the road.
Unfortunately, I did find the suspension, just a little bit hard. You really can feel every lump and bump in the road which does leave you feeling a little annoyed with it sometimes. For as large a vehicle, you really would expect the ride to be much, much smoother. The Vauxhall Vectra 1.8i Sri VVT doesn’t come with any parking sensors, which is a bit of an oversight from Vauxhall, with a car of this size. The back end is so large that you really could do with the reassuring beep of the sensor to help guide you into those tight spots although visibility is good through the large hatchback and excellent mirrors so it’s not an impossible task.
On the pocket, I found the Vectra averaged 40 mpg, which I didn’t think was too bad based on it’s size and weight. To tax it will cost you £175 per year to tax as it comes in with 173 g/km CO2 so there are definitely more environmentally friendly cars out there for the more CO2 conscious. EuroNcap scored the Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 SRI 4 out of the highly coveted 5 stars in it’s car safety assessment programme.
In conclusion, the Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 Sri VVT is a must see if you are looking for a large, practical and comfortable family hatchback. The fold flat seats enable easy transportation of large items and the spacious interior offers comfort and calm to your passengers for any journey. It’s a versatile people carrying machine for boys.
