Is signing PCP finance docs and posting them legal - woollyeyes

Hi

Am trying to find out if it is legal to receive and sign finance documents for a new car ordered over the internet?

I have heard you must sign any finance documents when buying a new car on PCP on licensed premises, is this true?

Many brokers simply offer to post them to you. If you do sign at home and post back is that legal and who is liable for any issues?

Regards

This is a perfectly acceptable practice. Two different scenarios will affect your right to cancel the credit agreement - Either you have had no "face-to-face" contact with the broker/ lender or you have had such a discusssion/ negotiation. If you have had face to face involvement then the documentation, once signed by you off trade premises, should be signed by the lender, returned to you at which point you would have 14 days in which to cancel the whole contract and get any money back that you have paid. This should be prominent on the documentation returned to you if it applies at all.

Yes you have a 14 day cooling off period to cancel - mandatory with finance agreements and IIRC other products bought "at distance" such as over the internet or phone.
