Protection of Freedoms Bill - Clause 56 - Petition - JamesEB

As many of you will know from reading HJ in The Daily Telegraph there is a clause in a bill before parliament at the moment that seems to be going unchallenged.

Part 3, Chapter 2, Clause 56 of The Protection of Freedoms is designed to make the registered keeper liable for any parking fines where it is not possible to identify the driver responsible for the parking infringement. This clause has the backing of, and heavy lobbying from, the British Parking Association due to the revenue stream it will generate for its members.

The premis of innocent until proven guilty will be removed from a purely civil matter using heavy handed criminal powers. This can not go unchallenged anymore. I urge you all to contact your not only contact your MP but also to sign an e-petition that has been set up.

We have seen recently that these do seem to work if 'the people' are aware of them.

Please pass on the details: http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/6342

What if the RK was actually a non-existant entity who's name was constructed from parts of the real RK's name ?.

That would be fun. Just imagine the hilarity when the Court finds this 'being' giulty in their absence, then tries to recover the debt.

HJ worked his magic and managed to get the e-petition details into this morning's HJ section of The Daily Telegraph (and even managed to think up a good headline for it!)

The signature rate has risen steadily in the past two hours - passed the 200 mark about 30 mins ago.

Let's keep going!

Protection of Freedoms Bill - Clause 56 - Petition - concrete
Hello JamesEB, great news and good old HJ, although he would probably say 'less of the old'. I have coralled everyone I can and even got our local Conservative party to send a letter to Central Office in support of change to the new bill. I have written to David Cameron, Theresa May, Kenneth Clarke, Phillip Hammond, Eric Pickles, Lord Phillips and my own MP. To date I have had several replies, mostly non committal but at least they know we care about our rights and freedoms. Keep it up. Best of luck, cheers Concrete
