whats your opinion of the cheapest 4x4 to run in the long term. by the way it has to be stylish, reliable, fuel efficient and 6 seats or more. i am thinking of the lines land cruiser, shogun etc.

Has anyone got a discovery 3 and if you have is it reliable.
|
A business colleague has just traded his first one (manual) for an auto. His first had done nearly 40,000 trouble free miles.
|
yeah but i mean the seat fabric do sent effect reliability but in a scale of 1 to a 100 what would you rate it.

We have a one year old one in the family. It is reliable in that it doesn't break down. There has been funny noises from the power steering and the seat fabric is of poor quality and lasts about 9 months before having to be recovered due to stretching and becoming baggy.

have a look under the whatcar reader reviews - the car seems to get great reviews, or terrible - not so many in between. My impression is that its a great car when working well.

In a battle to see who will outperform the other 4x4 i will be conducting a 4x4 group test using your opinions. for eg. Discovery vs Q7. Q7 technically wins as reliability is crucial. but then the discovery also wins in other aspects wading etc.

If anyones owned a 4x4 what was it and was it reliable. tell you what evaluate your years of experience with that 4x4.(ps i doubt it will be long) lol.

I drove two 4x4s for two years in Kenya about ten years ago. One was a slightly aging Shogun/Pajero which had done at least 200,000 kms. Was mostly reliable, but the points gap kept closing up - had to adjust every 6 months and it left me stranded once.
I also got stuck after the garage had changed a driveshaft gaiter and not put the freewheel hub back together correctly - so I only had rear wheel drive. Got stuck in the mud a couple of times, badly, as a result (Cheetah eating its prey 100 yds away on the second time).
Other car was a Kenyan assembled Subaru - absolutely perfect - we tried to get it stuck in a local field (with the Pajero on hand to tow it out), but it simply kept on going!
Haven't yet owned a 4x4 in the UK, but likely to soon as we now have a caravan.

This makes the fifth thread you've started on almost the same topic! Can't you use the one you already have?

Well done on merging them Pologirl!

Glimmy's (sic) questions about 4x4s
It seems gjimmy is spreading his trawlling net wide to catch some unwary fish.
He has forgotten the details of the bait though:

What do you think about this car in terms of looks. apparently this is the next big thing in the market segment for green cars
|
Looks better than many other SUVs, engine pulls well once you've got over the turbo lag, handling is wallowy, interior trim (carpet/headlining) is fragile.

We've had an apology from the OP for the multiple postings !
Thanks.
