focus 1.6 (02) loose gear stick linkage - 406 hdi
The gear stick linkage on my Focus (22k) has become loose making it difficult to select the gears.
Is this a common problem, any idea on cost to repair, is it serious?

I have heard of this, a friend had it on a 1.8, needed a small part, from what he said a dealer should know what it is straight away.

It's likely to be the gear lever spring that is causing the problem.they break and cause the symptoms you desribe.

Indeed. Tis the the gear lever return spring, a known weakness. The part will set you back all of £2.50, plus an hours labour at the garage of your choice. Though you might want to try a forum search for Adam, as ISTR he fixed this problem himself and told us how he did it.
