Hello, thinking of buying a MG ZT+ CDTi 135, (Same as 75 shape) Took one out for a test drive and thought it was a nice car, and spotted a better one on the autotrader website.
Im thinking about looking at, it's in that nice blue on a 53 reg.
What i'd like to know is are any any good?, never been much of a Rover person but i know these are manly BMW so does that make it any good?
It has the 2.0 BMW Diesel Engine so no headgasket problems.
Also as they are no longer made will that be a problem with parts etc?.
The car is up for £7995 with 42k

Price looks a little bit high to me and i'm not the 75's biggest fan but they are more designed for a middle aged bloke than a 27 year old lad.
Yes there will be problems with parts - not mechanical things but body parts like bumpers etc, they are already difficult to get hold of for the MG ZR so the ZT will probably be the same.

This is what was bothering me, im 26 by the way! ;), o.k, im looking for a late roomy sporty diesel.
Was interested in a focus at one point but was told the boot is small and you can not get a pram in it, (i have no children but we are planning them so need a bigger boot).
Quite like a Mondeo TDCI 130 Zetec S but they are like rocking horse poo to find.
I have a Max of £7000 - £8000 to spend less if i can.
Anyone got and fresh ideas on what is a good buy?

If i had to make the choice between a mondeo and a MG ZT it would have to be the mondeo. And yes it does hurt me to say that!
I had a Rover 75 2.5 V6 Auto as a company car and i really did not like it, the MG is a bit better but it's still not a young chaps sort of car.
There are thousands of family's out there with focus's as their main car so i can't see how people can say you can't get a pram in it.
|
Well that was what i thought but a friend of mine had to sell his focus for a mondeo because his babys pram wouldn't fit in the boot, also a family member has one and alsocomplained about the small boot.

I think, if I were looking for this car I would first check around for spares availability, like ring around local parts depts just to see what parts are around on the shelf/waiting times for parts.
other point to consider is what warranty comes with the car,and if private sale will any CO,give you a warranty, these can be had but may cost and would show on premium asked.
I have nothing against this car but would be carefull on what you get and warranty side make sure the small print is thoroughly read, many clauses would discount it worth buying

Wants to be a grand cheaper.
I am not sure the parts availability problems are still relevant, a person I know pranged his 75 and was able to get a new bumper, grill (or is it grile?) and bonnet quite quickly.
|
The price £7995 is a forecourt price.
|
|
not
|
fair enought then!, i'll stick to finding a mondeo then!
|
If it's as good as my Rover 75 CDTi was then yep, go for it.

And through 8k down the drain.Just for an exercise see how much a dealer will give for the same car,and then call for the resperator.

Have you thought about a Seat Toledo? Better image than either Mondeo or 75 IMhO, massive boot and you should be able to get a TDI130 PD version for this price.
|
no i hadn't thought of the SEAT, same as a golf i quess but with a bigger boot.
|
I had a Focus hatchback (5dr) as a company car about five years ago. Once you put the buggy in the boot there wasn't much room for shopping etc. It would have been even worse with the traditional style pram we had at the time.
That was the only siginificant issue I had with the Focus. At the time I couldn't believe how good the car was for a Ford so I bought a new shape Mondeo on the strength of it but that turned out to be a lemon.
