I tried to get an answer to this question in a previous thread but have had no replies yet. Basically, someone suggested that new PSA HDIs don't use the fuel additive (EOLYS) any longer. Is this the case and if not, why not? Also are all of the current PSA HDI engines fitted with a particle filter that needs replacing at specified intervals?

Use "Forum search" (not Site search") and type Eolys
or click this link

Thanks for the reply but the link only gives an explanation of the technology behind EOLYS being used in the first place.

The link below is to the PSA website
Vehicles with FAP in the description have this thermal system fitted

Thanks for that, but it doesn't list all of current PSA engines, particularly the new 1.6 and 2.0 HDIs.
Odd to see a 2.2 HDI listed for a C4 too, which has never been an option for the UK, as far as I know.

I seem to think that the EIV 1.6 and 2.0 in the Focus has a refillable additive, have you asked a Peugeot, Citroen or Ford dealer? Or Mazda or Volvo for that matter.
|
I haven't asked any dealers, as it has been my experience that they can't always be relied on to give accurate information. I thought someone in this forum would have the answer.
|
As far as I know all Euro IV compliant Hdi's (don't think they all are yet) use the EOLYS fluid/regenerative trap system. Euro IV Toyota's inject diesel fuel into exhaust manifold to raise temperature to burn off soot but don't think Peugeot use this system.
|
Diesel fuel is somewhat cheaper than EOLYS fluid, so that sounds a rather more attractive method of dealing with the problem.

I was concerned about the huge cost of replacing the particle filter, at or before the 72K service, when I asked my dealer about it. He said that, for some weeks in June/july 2005, there was a shortage of EOLYS and some PSA cars were made with a different exhaust system ie no EOLOYS and no particle filter.
|
Is there any easy way to identify which cars don't have the EOLYS and particle filter? As far as I am concerned, they are just a pain in the backside.

from the thread I started on a very similar issue:
406 hdi 2.2 fuel filter warning (FAP) - Screwloose Thu 23 Feb 06 00:16

Glad to hear that you've managed to put the light out - permanently[?]
You'll get an "Anti-pollution diesel additive low" warning message if/when the Eolys fluid becomes depleted. It'll then need around five litres at around £32ltr. [What a nice little earner! A dealer reportedly quoted £450+ to refill a 307.]
I've been having a bit of a trawl through all the various 406 HDi wiring diagrams after it occurred to me that any engine code fitted with Eolys would need to include an exhaust pressure sensor.
It would seem [at least from the available data] that engine codes 4HX and 4HW had that extra sensor. Determining whether yours is one of those, is made simpler by the fact that on all later Peugeots, the engine code is incorporated into the letters of the VIN number visible through the base of the windscreen. So if yours includes either of those codes, then you should have the system - probably!
HTH. If you find a more definitive list do post it up!
Nice one that screwloose again!

£450 to refill the EOLYS fluid is extortionate. I paid £157 for our C5 at my local dealer, back in the spring of last year. About half of that charge was for labour.

machika
Reportedly; that included 6ltrs of jollop; fitting a new "board??" and carrying-out a forced regeneration. There may have been environmental charges included too; as the new fluid cannot be mixed with the old, disposal of the toxic waste could be quite a considerable on-cost.
The outside world hasn't even got an inkling of what happened on August 16th last year - yet! Have a look at what every garage has to spend thousands of pounds a year dealing with now: don't forget, points win prizes - big ones - for them!

Well, I had nothing done to the particle filter, as it is not due for replacement until 50k miles. Our C5 had covered about 38K when the fluid was replaced. I don't know anything about environmental charges, as this was never mentioned, all I was charged for was the refilling (I assume there would have been some fluid left in the reservoir).
|
So guy's is there any way of replacing the fluid yourself? Cos i really don't want to spend all that dosh at Peugeot.

What on? What mileage? Has the FAP already been changed?
