Thanks Phil! The '4' route on the sustrans website is the one I did on Sunday!
I'm just printing out a map that was on the last site (www.guildford.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/0D461728-9A75-45...9

to have a closer look at.

I have done a quite a bit of cycling around Chertsey, Staines, Woking etc and I know the cycle path between Woking and Ottershaw (past the Christmas tree farm), I don't think the next section towards Woking is open yet (past Ottershaw church and on towards McLaren's Paragon centre) though once over the hill by the church this is not a bad road to cycle. Otherwise how about taking a right just under the m/way bridge (by White Lodge) and taking the Longcross Road past Foxhills etc, quite easy to get to Guildford on the back lanes in this direction.

Can you tell me a bit more about that please? I'd never have thought that way was possible - thanks!

...... past Foxhills you come out on to the Chobham Road, take a right, when you get into Chobham take a left on the road sign posted Knaphill, in Knaphill get onto the Worplesdon road on into Guildford, there are a few short cuts and many scenic options, perhaps get an OS map of the area.

Come spring when the towpath is dried up a bit:
Chertsey - addlestone moor roundabout - weybridge industrial estate, (wave to me) then hit the Wey navigation tow path lovely cycle route all the way into Guildford (its a bit longer than cheddars route past St Peters (wave to wife) but a lovely route)

Thanks TVM! I'll give that one a try sometime, maybe this Sunday! Good thing it's a mountain bike - I ended up cleaning it by dunking it in Coxes Lock (If you know it) this Sunday gone!
I used to work at St Peters...what department is she in? The joys of Radiology?

I second that as a great ride though perhaps more of a Sunday jaunt than a commute, I know Coxes Lock, I knew someone who bought one of the flats when they first converted it, very nice, before that the mill pond was very spooky, so deep and still.

I drove the route (Or an approximation of it - I just went through Chobham 'highstreet' and then followed the signs to Guildford, right at the Total garaage) that was posted here last night - what a mission! Although I guess there are shortcuts that you can only do by foot/bike.
|
If coming into Chobham on the Woking road you should have gone left at the Total garage (with the high st to the right) then right at the fork with the white house in the middle towards Knaphill etc. However if you came into Chobham on the Ottershaw/Fairoaks road then going through the high st and right at the garage is the best way, then right again at the fork.
It may be that you ended up on the Lightwater road (past Gordon Boys School) which would have been a long way around.
|
Yes that's it, I came in past Fairoaks. I live about 2 miles away from the Harvester (Down Spinney Hill and past Abbeylands, sorry, Jubilee High (sigh))
I'll have another look tonight!

Do you want two cycle routea so that you can ride them on alternate days, or do you really mean alternative cycle routes.
Or are you a closet American?
Sits back with a pedantic git look on face.

I'm after routes. What's a routea?
Sits back with pedantic look on face. ;o)
I'm after an alternative cycle route! Doing the journey via road the way I do in a car would be a non-starter. I was after any hidden shortcuts that locals might know of...
