Focus gearstick not centralizing - paul_pompey
It appears that some form of spring is at fault here, when i push gear stick to the right it spring back central but when doing the same to the left it just stays there.

The problem is when changing from 2nd to third gear because of this fault it is easy to go into 1st !

Is the fault simple to rectify any ideas ?

thanks

The fault is amazingly common but simple to repair.

You'll find that you need a gear lever return spring which which cost at most, a couple of quid from Ford.

Do not take it to Ford as they will charge around 70 quid to fix what you can do in a few minutes.

It's a little fiddly and the exact same happened to me only from the right rather than the left.

If you want my advice, follow the second one. The first one looks needlessly complicated. And there's no way it'll take 45 minutes - I did it in the drive with one screwdriver in about 10 minutes and I'm not usually good at that kind of thing.

Good luck,
