I have stayed in Paris a number of times, always in the Rue Monmarte area, just off Boulevarde Hausmann and about a 10 minute walk east of Opera.
It is convenient for a number of Metro lines and also for Gare du Nord for Eurostar and train to CDG.
I stay in Hotel Acadia Opera which is a small but pleasant hotel on Rue Geoffroy Marie although there are several on that road and in that immediate area, although I would not recommend Hotel Geoffory Marie which is a rip off.
Also in the same area is the Hotel Pulitzer Opera which was listed in the Travel section of the DT about two years ago. I had a look in and it seemed very nice.
