but not the british version !

even with the us version, the patch is not a patch. with mozilla and firefox, they do not issue patches. you have to install the full new program, preferably doing anuninstall before reinstalling the new one.

mozilla-firefox are now learning that the fruits of success bring dangers. the last exploit was so dangerous that zdnet claimed
" .... a malicious Web site, it can steal cookie information from other Web sites you had previously visited," said Thomas Kristensen, Secunia's chief technology officer. The attacker could then use that information to engage in identity theft or gain access to other password-protected sites that the victim visited.

so beware all, whatever browser you use, you may not be immune to attack.

I don't think they need to "learn" anything, they already know the Web is a dangerous place. You think the Mozilla Foundation is new to this? I agree with you though that the patching system for Firefox needs improvement, especially on Windows--FF2.0 will apparently have live update--but you have to admit that three days to patch ain't bad, especially since it was possible to set up the browser to work round it and that the problem was more or less obviated within hours by changes to the Mozilla server, and especially compared with:

secunia.com/product/11/

Some of those 19 unpatched holes are almost a year old and the most serious (rated "Highly Critical") dates back to April 2004. So I'm sticking with Firefox, thanks.

Agree with your post Chris - Mozilla certainly look after the users a whole lot better.

Only thing that occurs to me - wonder if it's worth rushing for 1.0.4? Surely no-one is going to write owt to exploit such a well-publicised weakness that has in any case been plugged.

I think Mozilla actually say it's optional--there were no known exploits of the "hole" anyway and adjustments to the browser prety much close it off, but if you have broadband it's not a big download. I was wrong about FF2.0 getting the live updater by the way; it looks like it will be in 1.1, and thus quite soon.

Yes, it's advisable to uninstall the previous version before installing the new one - takes about 90 seconds...:-) Also saves having two (or more) Firefox folders.

The configuration is kept in a separate folder so you don't have to worry about that part.

PS

It's easy enough to download and install the English (UK) language extension.

I must be missing something....

Can't figure out why a browser would need separate US English and UK English versions?

Someone...?
