I am trying to identify a relay I recent repaired that was causing his car to completely cut out. It is Relay 30 on a P plate 1.6 golf. I've searched my VW ETKA parts Catalgue without luck. Any help appreciated. Regards Peter

VW part No for relay 30 is 165 906 381. Approx £10.

Thanks for that but what function does this relay have in the system is it an ECU power control relay, fuel, ignition or what. Thanks. Peter

It is the main relay for the engine management system,fuel injection & possibly ignition system depending on engine type.

If your Golf is cutting out when driving for no apparant rease; wet, dry, cold hot etc - it is relay 30 for sure, I had EXACLTY sam prob in my '97 Mk3 GTi!
If it intermittantly won't start from cold, change 162 (i think) - this is fuel pump relay! My friends '96 Mk3 Gti had this prob and we fixed it yesterday! (So did my bosses '96 Gti a few months back). It's obviously a commen fault with the Mk3!
