my v6 omega seems to have a problem.. when i go to pull off from traffic lights/standing still it seems to be only fireing on only 3 or 4 pots but after about 3 or 4 seconds she pulls on all 6 pots. this only seems to happen once the engine is warmed up. this does not happen every time i go to pull off but i would say it is 50% of the time... please help me if you can.

Omega is known for HT trouble. Coil/HT lead breakdown?
|
I tend to think that Aprilia is correct.
My first Vectra V6 (same basic engine, though transverse instead of north-south) exhibited these symptoms when virtually out-of-the-box new. The cause was one of the three 'wasted spark' ignition coils playing up when warmed through.
Some time later, it exhibited similar symptoms again, but this time by dropping down to four or five cylinders when warmed through and under load. This time the cause was HT leads, with the location of insulation breakdown being visible by running the warmed up engine in the garage (door open!) at night, with the lights switched off. I was glad the car was leased at this point, as GM leads are fearsomely expensive to replace, and can only be purchased in a complete set of six.
|
I have replaced a few of these - they are not only expensive but its a very awkward job to do on the Omega (I still have some of the scars!).
|
First change the plugs.
Then dig deep and change the leads.

New leads from www.autovaux.co.uk are approx £47.

Think your price must be for the four cylinder engines, V6 is much more than this for the complete set. They do come per bank of three cylinders though from Vauxhall.
For info the sets are made by Beru www.beru.com/english/home/index.php and can be purchased cheaper than through Vx from one of their UK distributors I was given Hans Motors name in Birmingham www.hansmotors.co.uk/index.htm who do mail order. Not used them so cannot make any recommendation.

Well that's the price autovaux quote when selecting both the 2.5 or 3.0 litre engine from the menus.

That must be a price for half the leads (i.e. three cylinders). Still V.V. cheap though.
|
See what you mean DD. Go on to lead sets and there is nothing listed go to plug leads and there is. Any way just rang them to check and it is the half set they quote. They are BERU ie OEM but are £76 + VAT for the full set. Still about half Vx retail IIRC.
|
Glad you phoned them to confirm. The info they provide is misleading. Who would only want to buy half a set?
Mr Bloggs see's how cheap they are, so orders them based on the info on the website, and finds that half the order is missing.

Scrub that. The small print description says \"For cylinders 1, 3 & 5\" Interesting that they don\'t list any for cylinders 2, 4 & 6. The AV Code is different for the V6 VEctra, which btw has both sets listed. I would have thought the engine would have been the same in both the Omega and Vectra - apart from sitting at 90 degrees to one another in the engine bay.

This is the reason I don't like autovaux they are not very clear on the website what you are buying. They've been around long enough now to have made the item descriptions much better.
An example of this, I found was that they don't list the 16v / 8v option for the 2.0 Omega engine.
BTW I know what OEM is, but what what does it stand for?

Original Equipment Manufacturer

Couldn't agree more. Great idea, very poor website. Often there is no image to view with poor explanations of the part in question. Also you leave an e-mail request for them to ring you with a price and delivery time as per their instructions and..... nothing.
|
I forgot about that, I left an email question because the part was not described properly, I got an answer about 3 months later.
Another time I had no relpy atall.
