All votes have been reset to zero. Same format as before - nominate two cars for eviction. You don\'t have to give a reason this time - unless of course you nominate something different from the last round of voting.
Next Tuesday (13th July) is the closing date for nominations. The cars with fewest votes will remain and the voting process will begin again until we?re left with *hopefully* one (or maybe 2) winner(s).

Said it once, I'll say it again
2CV
TUSCAN!
Cheers
Adam

|
2CV - as before
hmm...
umm...
Landcruiser - no need unless you're a farmer (is that the 4x4 bandwagon outside?)
|
|
Mondeo. Why? Why? So many more interesting cars for the price.
Tuscan. Falls apart. Breaks down. Spins off the road. Ugly. Only seems good through the distorted vision of a mid-life crisis.
|
|
Tuscan , as previous
Landcruiser, never been one for Tonka toys!

My vote remains the same as before, Mondeo and 405, for the same reasons as before.
Was a bit surprised to read some criticism of the Leon. As a happy owner, I can put my hand on my heart and say that I didn't buy it because I couldn't afford a Golf - I didn't (and still don't) want a Golf. I wanted a car with plenty of equipment as standard instead of paying for it from the options list (better than Golf, A3 or Octavia), decent handling (at least the equal of the A3 and certainly way better than the other two), for a good price (ditto versus Golf and A3, not much in it versus Octavia) and good to look at (ditto for the lot, IMHO!). FWIW I also compared it to a Focus and thought it beat it hands down.
Leon to win!
(Not that I'm nailing my colours to the mast or anything ....)

Seat Leon
Ford Mondeo
everything else has character
if the Alfa 156 is booted, i'll cry
if i buy an Alfa 156 (which i might soon) i'll cry
sigh...

Sorry it has to be the 2CV again folks, I mean just look at it!

Hugo, This is Big Brother.
You really haven't got the hang of this have you ;o)
And your second vote is?
|
Do I HAVE to nominate two cars as opposed to one?
OK the second nomination is the LandCruiser, as it's not a Land Rover!
H
|
|
|
1. 2CV - I refer to my earlier answer
2. Toyota Landcruiser - I'll back down on this if ANYONE apart from Mark has ever seen one of these off road.
V
|
|
Leon - ersatz Golf
Landcruiser - ersatz bulldozer
|
|
Landcruiser - unless its 4x4 capability is used which means
it should be gone!
Leon - Ok, it showed the Golf how to handle but in essence it's
a VAG parts bin special.
|
|
Peugeot 405 because it is french tat with dodgy electrics and I only ever see them belching clouds of diesel fumes as they are taxi drivers favourite runabout.
Ford Mondeo - it's about as an exciting a car as a tin opener is a kitchen utensil.

Ford Mondeo - it's about as an exciting a car as a tin opener is a kitchen utensil.
Take it you've never driven one, then teabelly!
2cv
405
because I put them all in order and these are the two I least liked.

Citroen 2CV. It might have been a clever slant on minimal motoring at the time, but many 10-year-old diesel cars are more economical than the tin snail as well as faster, safer and cheaper to buy! It has it's place in motoring history but not in my garage.
Alfa 156 - Because they forgot to leave a proper space in the middle for the front number plate, so it looks like it's on trade plates!
Cheers, Sofa Spud

Seat LEon because its still a Golf with all the Golfs illusions of greatness.
Toyota Land Cruiser because its even more useless than the other 4 x 4s, eg. bigger.

Toyota.
tuscan.I think both ugly, but thats my opinion.

1. 405
2. 2CV
for same-ish reasons as before.
|
|
2 cv - Same reason as before
Land Cruiser - not needed for anyone but farmers.
|
|
2CV. Flower power *shudder*
Mondeo. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
|
|
1. TVR Tuscan
Looks more like a kit car than the mid 90's models.
2. Toyota Landcruiser
As the TVR will refuse to start, it'll need something to tow it out.
|
|
Ooff at all this Mondeo abuse - I hope you all drive exotic stuff if you wish to call the Mondeo dull. Fantastic for the money ;)
Anyway, I digress.
My nominations:
Alfa 156: Horrid reliability
TVR Tuscun: Makes an Alfa look reliable.
|
|
Landcrusier as before.
Leon - I'd rather have a Mondeo.
I'ts getting harder!!
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
|
Landcruiser, should only be allowed in the outback/bush!
405 bland,bland,bland
|
|
2CV-first car I owned and still the worst, what was my Dad thinking when he bought it me?
405- old now and despite it's smart Pinanfarina styling was never a truly great car, excpet maybe the Pikes Peak edition in 'Climb Dance'
|
|
Peugeot 405 - contemporary Mondeo was better built, and offered a hatch / saloon / estate inlike the 405.
Toyota Landcruiser - not the car's fault, but let's get in a vote against the kamikaze mums whose only off-road venture is mounting the kerb outside the school gates. I'm a reluctant fellow-traveller with Ken Livingstone on this one!
|
|
My nominations are:
1. Ford Mondeo. Makes grey seem an appealing colour not forgetting the tractor-like diesels.
2. Toyota Landcruiser.

Am I missing something here?
Far be it from me to influence votes but the Landcruiser, presumably, is good at...well...cruising land. It's designed to go offroad and also, I'm presuming it does this well. IF we had a Big Brother's RURAL Garage then I'm sure people wouldn't say "the Mondeo because it can only drive on roads"
Sorry. I just feel sorry for that big Toyota!
Cheers

>>Am I missing something here?
Don't knock it. DD keeps getting very good deals on Vectras because its fashionable to be rude about them.
Landcruisers are very expensive, but if everybody decides its cool and offers street cred to be mean about them, then I'll start getting them cheaper.
So lets get that tank out of there !! Boo, hiss, its rubbish. Nobody needs a Landcruiser - not like they *need* a mondeo/vectra/whatever.
BTW, I might also be the only person who this weekend was very glad the Landcruiser has a sizeable bash-plate underneath it. Why would anyone bury a huge stone in soft mud ? And if not, how, in a large field of mud, does a single stone about the size of an oil drum get buried in the middle of it ? Its not like I live near Amesbury.
As for my votes - the Peugeot because I don't know what it looks like so it can't be very striking and the Seat Leon because its got a very silly name.
|
|
|
My two nominations:
1/ Landcruiser, 'cos it's for cruising on the land, not for keeping in a garage, let alone drving on roads.
2/ Alfa 156: the car as degenerate, baroque technology, a triumph of form over function. Looks pretty if you like contrived and frenetic lines, but no great driving advantages over lots of alternatives, and its cramped interior is matched by suspect reliability.
The one I'm having trouble deciding on:
2CV, 'cos although it was in its day one of the finest bits of car engineering ever, its day was a long long time ago. Robust, reliable, simple: an unburstable engine matched to a brilliantly simple suspension design which did a very difficult job without fuss. I can't think of any other vehicle which fulfilled the design brief so well, apart from perhaps the original Land Rover.
Its greed for fuel is out of keeping with the times, and its lack of crash protection makes it unsuitable for crowded roads. But when modern cars need wads of complex electronics for every single function, the 2CV still has something to teach us.
|
2/Alfa 156 Cramped interior!!!!
Compared to what, had a lift in a 316 the other week which is the Market Alfa were after when they designed it, vastly smaller than the 156 so cramped I couldn't believe it.
Jim
|
Actually, I have more of a problem with the line 'contrived and frenetic', since the whole design ethic of the 156 is smooth flowing lines. Since the 156 is pretty much the antithesis of all NW's motoring views, it's hardly surprising she doesn't like it though ;)

1. Toyota Landcruiser

2CV: don't go for minimalist cars
Mondeo: yes I have driven one; all those broad acres of horrid black plastic? Ugh
|
|
1.Leon - cos the bloke that has nicked my jobs getting one..
2. Landcruiser - why not

Drink Lager Talk Piffle !

156
Leon
Now if they don't get booted out this time, I'm going to flounce out of the BR in a big huff, for well, *hours*
|
|
1 Leon - Alfa wannabe
2) Landcruiser - cos I hate them.

Just to update you on the nominations.
So far it looks like there *may* be only one eviction this week as there is only one outright loser with more nominations than any other vehicle.
I might put the next 3 losers in the list into a separate nomination list to decide which one of them also goes.
Keep nominating folks.
ps, my nominations for this week are:-
The Pug 405 (same reasons as before)
Citroen 2CV. Upturned pram with no forthought to where the headlights were gonna go.
|
DD - that's not fair on the 2CV.
Name me any car dating from the 1930s with unexposed headlights?
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
|
Just did a quick tally, and got the following results:
8< snip 8<
NW, I\'ve delibrately avoided posting the actual results up until now so as not to sway the voting. Hence the deletion of your post. Tally them up privately by all means.
DD.
|
|
|
2 cv same reasons as before
Peugeot 405 - even my Vectra was less bland
|
|
405 - same reason as before. I can't believe it's still here.
Landcruiser - unless you're in the Sahara, it's a complete and unnecessary waste of metal.
|
|
Good day back room, and here are the votes from the RF family
Toyota Landcruiser 1 point
Toyota croiseur de terren un point
Citroen 2cv 1 point
Citreon Deux Chevaux un point
That concludes the votes from the Renault Family
|
I'm appalled RF - voting a French car out?????
--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
|
I am sulking and cutting my nose off to spite my face after the dreadful R5 debacle
Anyway the 2CV was a shed.
|
If it was a real shed, it would have been listed by now and demolition would be illegal!

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

Still not changing my votes (and I see that several others are joining me).
TVR & Landcruiser. Both pointless & without any function whatsoever.
|
Still not changing my votes (and I see that several others are joining me).
You\'ll have to when your nominations are no longer there ;o)
ps,
Voting closes at around 6:30pm tonight, so if you haven\'t already nominated, you\'ve only a few hours left to do so.
|
If you take my toys away, I won't play. ;-p
|
|
|
Pug 405, Creaking dash, bland styling, not in my drive thank you.
Tuscan. It's only still in the garage because nobody can get it started.

Just as well a Passat never made it into the garage.
