Does anyone know when the new Passat will be on sale in the UK ?
I have seen some preliminary PICs of it on a German Web site and it looks quite nice, actually a shrunk down Phaeton by the looks of it....

According to the Car-by-Car breakdown (HJ's own little baby, up there on the top left of the screen) it's due to hit our shores in March 2005.

I think the back light clusters have an almost Alfa feel to them, albeit a bit porkier. Possibly a tiny touch of Seat too..

I went to a car clinic/forum in Berlin in Dec. '02 and was shown a full size clay model of the proposed new Passat and it looked nothing like the one shown here. The version I saw was hideous and the day consisted of telling a PR bod. what was right and wrong with the proposed car, as a matter of opinion of course. They also had virtually every similar size saloon on display for comparative purposes and they asked for critiques of those also.
Considering the pictures above it is a much more attractive proposition than the mock-up I saw. Maybe they actually do listen to what punters tell them.

The new passat estate looks like a combination of a Laguna II tourer and a 156 Sportwagon - nice.
The saloon looks good too - though in a far more agressive way than the current model (especially in the CG pics).
