Got a 1997 1.3 Fiesta which has just started to cut out when pulling up at junctions etc. When it's re-started it ticks over ok. Also when I rev the engine the revs just die and it stops. Had a look under the bonnet but there is no adjustment on the throttle cable, any ideas anyone please.

Probably ireelevant but starting and tickover problems on daughters 1.1 appear completely cured with a full flush etc

I've flushed the fuel system with Valvoline injector cleaner, any other advice please?

Sounds like you've got the same problem as this person. A humble resistor placed in the appropriate place may help you.

Thanks Dave. I'll take this information along to a local specialist.

Two causes of this problem, firstly the idle speed control motor may need replacing or cleaning together with the throttle body and secondly some engines had a very wide exhaust valve clearance, usually denoted by a sticker on the valve cover.Setting the clearance to the ,normal' claerance can give rise to stalling.

Thanks Andrew. I haven't noticed a sticker on the rocker box however, it's all good info' to take when I can get round to booking it in with my local mechanic .

Thought I would give the forum some feed-back on the cutting out problem with the Fiesta. Took it to the local Ford dealer today and the problem was the idle speed control valve @ £61.66 plus vat plus labour. Sorted!
AND they gave me a courtesy car for the day as well - no charge didn't even want to see my DL, I shall be using them again.

I did a post a while ago as I have the same problem on an N plate Fiesta Mark 4. Revs idly at about 1500 and cuts out at junctions for the first few minutes of any journey. What did you say it was again?
