my power loss problem still remains. any one heard of the catalyst being blocked more to the point how would it get blocked. does anyone know anything about this apparantly common problem with vectra diesels.?
|
Still remains after what remedial work, Steve?

got sorted turbo has a vacuum actuated solonoid thingy ,it was blocked not releasing enough vacuum to let the turbo actuate correctly..ok now

Hi Steve,
Did you fix this yourself, if so - what was involved. I have a similar surging problem although I have the 2.0 di rather than the dti.
Kind regards,

i have a mate who works for the v/hall dealer in wigan ,he did a vacum test for me with this thing you sort of pump up ,it detects leaks and checks the actuall pressure of the vac pump its self. one of the solonoids was a bit iffy so he changed it. this solonoind actually activates the acctuator arm that opens the turbo, to be honest cyril i didnt notice that much of a power increase. we then tried the tech 2 pluged in under the handbrake.no faults came up ,but what he also told me was ,that faults can occur on these damn air flowmeters and it not show up on the tech 2 .i thought every thing was well untill on the m6 near preston tonight that beloved little orange light lit up .........oh no ,not again, with this came a steady decrease in power and a swift lane change.ironically my mate flew out to lanzarote this morning leaving me to pull my hair out.so its of to the dealers in the mornin to part with some hard earned cash for a new A/F/M
what milage have you on yours cyril, year /model etc. for the record mine\'s a 1998(R)2.0 dti estate in preimium blue 127000 ilike the car very much as i have 3 kids and its good on juice and big in the back. the whole thing about this surging episode is ,i think a bit of a grey area surly some one should come up with agood way of testing out these a/f/m probs .i\'ll look forward to hearing your(or anyone else\'s veiws ) on vectra power loss/ surging problems
.best regards STEVE:-)

Hello Steve,
Mine's a 1999(V) 2.0 Di LS estate in silver 112k on the clock - owned for just over a year, bought from a garage specialising in ex-company/fleet cars. I too like the car, having 2 (very soon to be 3) children the space comes in handy as you say.
I've had two problems with the car since buying it:
The first was a perished vac hose - diagnosed and replaced by the dealer.
The second is this AFM/surging problem. I get slight surging at about 75mph upwards - to be honest I can live with that, but I also get the management light flashing at me in the 65-75mph range which is annoying as most of my driving as in this range - it never stays on more that a second or so unless I happen to be atempting to throttle up just as it comes on. If this happens then the light stays on and I have enough power to hold speed, but not increase it. To reset the light, I have to dip the clutch and let the engine drop back to tickover. I've had this second problem since Easter I guess, but although annoying, doesn't affect the economy of the car - still getting roughly 51mpg and I can't really justify the £150+ just to stop the light flashing.
I have been quoted for an AFM from the dealer, giving two prices depending upon engine code. One was about 85 and the other was about 150 (plus VAT presumably) - don't have the email to hand but I do remember mine was the most expensive (X20DTL). I've also been quoted £100 for a 2nd hand unit - but I'm not convinced these aparently delicate items would weather well in the postal system.
Let me know how you get on.
Kind regards,

hi cyril got sorted yesterday got the new a/f/m fitted wow!!!!!!!!! big big diffrence ,well at £155.10 i should think so ,touch wood its absoulutly flawless pushed out 110 mph this morning, and very good torque on hilly bits. i suppose its debatable if you fit a new a/f/m but the diffrence is superb . i spoke to the bloke on the parts counter at the vauxhall dealers in wigan,i was moaning about the price and he went on to say that i should be thankfull i dont own a1.0 corsa as the a/f/m for them are £210.00+ vat. i pulled my old one to bits and its just a small pcb and a bit of wire with a riesistor in it ,i bet it costs about 50p to make. i think cyril that the di metre is cheaper than the dti one i got. iwonder if any one has duplicated the software in these damn things yet ,pitty really i think there should be a cheaper alternative on the market .

Hi Steve,
Gald to hear you're sorted. I've dug out the "quote" from my local dealer:
DTL & DTH - £155.10
Y20DTH - £95.76
I think the DT indicates Diesel Turbo and the L and H mean Low and High pressure. Deduced by process of elimination, your engine must be a DTH, as I know mine is a DTL.
Was the £155.10 you paid the total bill? Or was that excluding VAT?
Kind regards,
Cyrill666

HI cyril ,yes that was the total price inc vat(still think its a rip off though).keep in touch, steve.

The High and Low preasure depends on whether you have an intercooler or not.
If you have an intercooler with the pipe off the turbo that runs round the side of the engine to the right of the radiator then you have a high preasure diesel turbo.
But if you have a pipe that runs straight from the turbo over the top of the engine straight into the equivalent of a throttle body then you have a low preasure diesel turbo.
Hope this helps
