Does anyone know of a permanent fix to the annoying creak from a dash.Car in 6 times to solve this problem. Eventually got a new dash fitted. It was fine for a while but has started to return.Guess it is to do with the weight of the plastic compound but it is doing my head in. Thanks

When does it creak? Hot/Cold/Warm?

If you ever see a Passat with the dash out you'll see the reason why the dashes all creak to some extent.
The dash is a big and very heavy assembly and the supporting structure is not really adequate for it. Thus the dash tends to 'sag' slightly under its own weight (we are only talking a few mm's) - this is enough for some of the clearances to close up and the creaking starts.
A colleague had a similarly afflicted Audi A4. The two of us spent a Saturday taking the dash out, sticking some black 'sealer-strip' in one or two critical places and also a few blobs of 'blue tack' where the dash mates with the firewall under the windscreen. We also used a *small* amount of Loc-tite on some of the mounting bolts when we put it back togteher (they had previously worked loose). That was over a year ago and it has stayed silent ever since.

Did exactly the same with my Passat, then sprayed copious amounts of cock pit sheene down all the joints, after a few days this gets stick and stops all the rattles, before this i got to the point of thowing in a gallon of petrol followed by a swift match.

Thanks for the advice. I nearly lost the plot with it this morning after nightshift. It started creaking constantly and every time I was braking it had a different \"pitch\". It\'s amazing that once the sound of it gets in your head, no matter how loud the stereo is or how much road noise there is, you can still hear the \"creaking\". I sprayed some cockpit spray down the front at the window followed by a little white grease. Seems to have done the trick for now. The \"petrol and match\" option sounds good if it comes back.

All the VWs I have been in have done this, I always remember that advert where the car is supposed to be so refined that they wonder where a creak is coming from and its the woman's dangly earing creaking. WHAT A JOKE!

Think you'll find the sqeaky ear ring advert was a golf !

If you can locate roughly where the squeak is coming from spray some WD 40 (using the dispensing tube) (not spray) it has worked well for me though I do not have a passat I had problems round my handbrake console and radio console. Has not come back in months and its cheap. forgive the pun.

Could be worse. I've got a 3k bill due to a timing belt slipping and taking out four teeth and all 20 valves.. need to replace the top half of the engine. Its only done 73k. Change your cam belts now!
