Ask Marcos {P}...

Hey.
I only bought up the issue of profiles and then eM.Be thought up the idea of having {P} after your name so people can easily see if youve filled in your profile section in the settings.
Not a bad idea as it goes.
|
Nortones: in view of the above posts by clariamn and splodgeface, it is clear that perhaps I should tell it once, tell it again, and then maybe one more time to make it clear.

eM.Be. {P} #Note: {P} = you can view my profile. Add {P} if your profile is viewable.
|
I'm not sure I follow this. If you're interested in people's profiles, you will know how to check, and if you're not, the {P} moniker is just confusing.
|
Up to a point. I know how to check but I have no idea if there's anything there when I click on the name unless there is a {P} in place.

eM.Be - I am intrigued. Why the campaign when you are so determined to remain cloaked in a shroud of anonymity yourself? ;)

I don't know why anyone should think I am cloaked in a shroud of anonymity. Once this campaign is over, I will go back to my original profile teliing you who I am. As for why the campaign? -
The answer is partly as per DavidHM's reply "I know how to check but I have no idea if there's anything there when I click on the name unless there is a {P} in place."
As discussed in the links in DDs initial post above, many of us added our profiles but wished that the software made it clear when someone's profile was not viewable. It is frustrating when you click on a name to have the message "this person's profile cannot be viewed".
Thinking laterally, as I am wont to do, I thought how about adding a symbol to our username that positively DECLARES to others that your profile CAN be viewed. The absence of the symbol means only that the person has NOT DECLARED whether their profile is viewable. It may still be viewable, as in the case of Meldrew at the time of writng this post - (by not adding {P} after his name, he has chosen NOT TO DECLARE that his profile is viewable, even though it actually is viewable. I regret that Meldrew took umbrage at my campaign to the extent of removing a reference to his excellent and helpful web-site, especially as he has a very nice photo there showing how charming he looks. I am sure the ladies would appreciate him very much! I hope he will re-instate that link soon. ).

Ah, forgive me - my memory must be serving me wrong. I seemed to recall that you had no original profile, or that if you had, it didn't really say anything about who you are.
Oh and just for the record, I have no {P} yet because I have removed my profile. In fact I rather enjoy the anonymity myself, but I think I might write a new and more informative profile shortly.

You'd better be honest HF or else !
|
But you can't access them anyway, V, can you, so you'll never know! ;)
|
|
HF. Perhaps we (the backroomers) should write your profile since we have enjoyed your antics for some time.
|
LOL Bafta, please go ahead, be my guest! I would be intrigued to see what you came up with! ;)

pondering whether to add "can be seen at infrequent times exiting the car either via the boot, or window, ala Dukes of Hazzard style"

never one to ignore a good idea............

Hahahahaha thanks for the addition guys! Full of the Friday feeling this week aren't we?
Newcomers to the site are going to avoid me like the plague!

I regret it too, you had me well confused in your post referring to his (by then) non-existent link to his site.
PUT IT BACK MELDREW!!
Or perhaps MB can post the link for the benefit of those who missed out?

Andy: If you go to
www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?f=2&t=13...9
you will see how I upset meldrew, and also find a link there (in the 9th post) to his now missing web-site. I have not posted a direct link to his web-site in this reply as I prefer to make people work a little to show their commitment to the cause of finding out what Meldrew looks like. I genuinely think he is a true gentleman, both from his altruistic web-site and from his appearance!

Why are all these people insisting on sticking their tongues out all over the place?

I wish I had chosen something else to discuss, this could get nasty.
|
I think everyone's taking the {P} ;-)
|
Oh, look who's worked out how to use his log-in finally !!!!!!
|
Welcome back RTB, haven't seen you around here in a while.
|
Thanks HF. I've been going through a rough time and the BR just didn't seem terribly important! But, I'm back now and already getting sarky comments from an individual who shall remain nameless. Thanks Mark ;)!
|
Well, a week on and it seems that despite eMBe's rigorous campaign, still only a handful of hardcore regulars have a profile. Why is everyone so shy?
|
I dont think anyone would be in the slightest bit interested in what i do!
|
OK the profile police win.
|
Ooh you little tease, Arthur! You've put a {p} in your identity, but you can't read your profile! You tinker ;-)

"Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast."

OOPS! I remember someone else did that as well.
|
Yep! Welcome back...someone who agrees with me (sometimes...well once...)
|
Think I've just changed my profile but not sure - will I live to regret it?
|
Congratulations to those who have now added profiles. For reasons unknown I might feel the need to carry on eMBe's campaign for a while. And Ben, why not? I'm sure no-one's remotely interested in mine either (which is why I chickened out and let M and D do it for me) but be brave! I kind of like this {P} thing, there's something vaguely conspiratorial about it.
