Hello, just seen a V6&8 plate at a reg company - the V8 costs more by a few hundred, my car is v6.
Are V8 registrations generally costing more or is it just luck of the draw?
IMO, the V8 carries more weight, what do you think?
Thanks.

Look hard and you may find a dateless plate for the same money or less. Mine was £495 7 years ago and I've been offered double by a plate co, so the real value will be 3 or 4 times what I paid.

Its also worth checking DVLAs site as sellers often list plates still for sale by the DVLA and put their commision on top

I don't think that V6 or V8 carry any weight, regardless of the engine actually fitted.
Those that know about cars will know what engine is fitted, without looking at the registration plate - those that don't know about cars won't care!
Personalised registrations are meaningful to their owner, no-one else, it's just a form of vanity.

Vanity does'nt come into it, I wanted one and bought one. Some people pay similar money for a coat with a brand name, disgarding it after a few weeks. Buy the right plate and it will increase in value, the wrong plate will devalue a car. Who's the more vane, me of the posh coat wearer?
V8 VPL is only worth anything to someone with those initals, leave it on the car when you come to sell an 05 plate car and........

I'm sorry, Dox, but my immediate thought when I saw that plate was visible panty line.
Must just be my smutty mind!

If the cars a V6 and you want a vanity plate then buy one with V6 written on it.
Don't see the point myself but some people seem to love them.

What do you drive Oldhand? Audi S6 and £28Ks worth of Golf GTi if memory serves and you say I suffer with vanity owning £500 worth of number plate Pot, kettle........

It was quite deliberate Boxterboy :O) Showing our age with the invention of the thong ;o)

Ive had my plate since I was courting in the late fifties, I haven't got a clue to its value as its not for sale and never will be.
Its got nothing to do with vanity, its just ours and it means something to us.
Not everyone who has a private plate suffers from vanity problems.

I would have thought that V3 or V7 etc with whatever initials might be worth more because they dont infer any connection with the car. OK 911 ABC is fine on a 911 though V6ABC on a 2.5 Mondeo is perhaps pointless and if you put it on a 4 cyl car some might think you are pretending it is a V6 (or V8 or whatever).

i had v6 gtv on my alfa gtv at one time and also s50 tvr on a 5.0ltr griffith until i killed the car using a concrete lamp stand. still have the tvr one on retention so may sell it eventually.
