just wondered peoples opinion's

had 9 cars this year !
bmw 320 d sport touring ( suspension too harsh)
rav4 d4d 3 door (too small to carry my stuff in, slighty uncomfy driving pos)
puma (for the wife, sold it)
toyota landcruiser 3.0 d (53 plate, fantastic, but no good on diesel !)
saab convertible 9-3 (wicked motor, comfy, 40mpg)(got bored of it!)
peugeot 307 1.1 (awful, bad driving pos, no power)
rover 214 16v bubble (great car, bought for £2000, sold for £1950 ! after 4 weeks !)

have now got
subaru sti uk (for the wife)
rover 75 cdt 110bhp (for me)
now the rover is very very slow, and i quite like it, but its white, and done 99K miles.

i need something to do 40K a year
i have £15K and the 75 (5.5K i guess?)
what car do i get next? im 33, and i guess i need a car with a bit of image
needs to be a hatch or estate, with roof bars, for family trips & hols
but small enough to get more than 50mpg, as i get £300 a month & 18p a mile
fast but really good on mpg. and xenons and excellent comfy seats
with lumber support, would like red/orange interior clock lights

this is my list
audi a4 avant ? nice but small in the back
a6 (dont like look of, like passat)
bmw 525 d se touring (favourite, but 44mpg)
volvo v70 (again nice, but low mpg)
saab 9-5 estate/hatch/ or is it saloon? (nice but green clocks)
mazda 6 ?
alfa156 sportwagon ? (reliabile??)(looks great!)
not mondao, laguna, vectra, omega.
mg zt-t (ok, but i really dont know)
peugeot 407?
honda ?
merc c/e class? rear wheel drive and old man image

there are too many cars to choose from now, sometimes wish, i just had a company car again !
mmmmm, then again, its fun looking at them all.
but you can never tell how comfy it is after just 1 day driving it.

so can i have any idea's, as i know you are all a sensible lot tic :-)

Out of your list I would have an Audi A6, Mercedes E class but only a 2001 facelift version, or the MG. Forget the rest. Definatly forget the Alfa though, Awful car..

I'd recommend deciding which ones you like the look of then test-driving as many of them as possible to form your own opinions, maybe finding some industry reviews of them too, rather than listening to pointless and untrustworthy bigotted opinion.

If it were me I would go either:

* BMW 5 series - It's a BM - enough said

* Volvo V70 - You know what you're getting - a good car

* Alfa 156 Sportwagon - Can't comment on reliability - you hear people slag them off yet real owners such as No Dosh and BazzaBear (I know BB has a 145) absolutely love them. And there's no denying that a 156 Estate would get more looks than the first 2.

You'll get low-mid 40s from the 2.4 JTD and should manage 50mpg from the 1.9JTD (150bhp)

I would recommend the Alfa, although you might sruggle to get 50mpg in the 2.4 one! The 1.9 16v multijet is now available which should be ok mpg wise but wont be quite as quick. (And for all you Alfa knockers out there, the 1.9 engine can be found in the Saab 9-3 and Astra, which I presume you will all now recommend avoidance of?)

Just been to dudlay (written as pronounced!)
and seen a 156 sportwagon, but it was next to a new GT
OMG, (the GT) what a beautiful car. think im sold on it.
It?s the 150bhp 1.916v td, Strombolli grey met, with red leather & winter pack.
It looks so gorgeous; he says it does 40-50 mpg.
Boot is plenty big enough for my work stuff, and you can fit roof bars for family hols.
I guess for 90 % of the time it?s just me on the M6, M5, and M40.
Wonder what the suspension is like?

Why not take it for a test drive? Also check out www.alfaowner.com for owners comments.
