Right then, round two of Big Brother\'s Garage.

4 cars in total were evicted from the previous round.
See here for details:-
www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=23421&...e

Here are the remaining cars, and as promised, because of foul play by the Renault 5, the Austin Allegro has taken it\'s place.

1. Toyota Landcruiser.
2. Austin Allegro. (New Garagemate)
3. Ford Mondeo.
4. Alfa 156.
5. Peugeot 405.
6. Seat Leon.
7. TVR Tuscan.
8. Perodua Nippa. (spelt correctly this time)
9. Citroen 2CV
****** EVICTED VW Golf. ******
****** EVICTED Lada Samara. ******
****** EVICTED Vauxhall Vectra. ******
****** EVICTED Renault 5. ******

All votes have been reset to zero. Same format as before - nominate two cars for eviction. You don\'t have to give a reason this time - unless of course you nominate something different from the last round of voting.

This Friday (9th July) is the closing date for nominations. The cars with fewest votes will remain and the voting process will begin again until we?re left with *hopefully* one (or maybe 2) winner(s).

Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - Happy Blue!
An All-aggro!!!!!!!!!!

You're mad!!! I remember driving one just after the steering wheel became round.....It leaked water in the cabin, it leaked water from the cooling system, it leaked oil, it was noisy, badly built and shared doors and central body area with the Marina.

OUT OUT OUT

Also, the Landcruiser - as per previous round.

--
Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - Cardew
Landcruiser

Seat Leon - if the Golf has gone how can this downmarket version remain - because its cheaper? surely not.
Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - mare
Citroen 2CV - reasons as round one - that 100% crumple zone

The Allegro - BL got this so wrong. Surprised that Allegro isn't exempt for its first round
Big Brother’s Garage - Round two. - NowWheels
mare, the only thing from which the Allegro was exempt was quality control! (ok, it also skipped design, engineering etc, but ya know what I mean)

I still reckon the TVR should be the winner (cos it's so spectacularly useless), so I'll vote tactically to back the candidates most likely to win enough votes to save it from eviction.

DD, any chance of a running tally of votes to assist us tactical voters? :)
Big Brother’s Garage - Round two. - Adam {P}
Oh come on NW - you can count surely!

Actually, that's a good idea but I can't be seen to agree with you. By default I have to argue every point you make!

possibly, tho I wouldn't bank on it! But since DD has his spreadsheet, its bound to be easier for him.

Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - Adam {P}
1. 2CV

2. Tuscan

1. The 2CV is a horrible borrible car and I use the word loosely...."car" that is not "horrible". Never before have I seen such as unstable.....shed on the road. We were driving behind one on some lovely country roads and on a bend which could only be described as a deviation from the straight line an entire side lifted off the floor to reveal tyres which were thinner than LPs.

2. The Tuscan because of the same reason as before. Why would anyone...ANYONE buy something like that, spend so much money on something for it to break down and fall to bits before you find out what every switch does....that is of course unless they have broken first.

Those are my nominations; whilst the Allegro is bad, the TVR and Citroen are up there and it would take a Renault 5 to change my vote!

:-)

Cheers

Adam
Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - Adam {P}
No I haven't invented a new word - I'm sure you all know that it meant to say "horrible Horrible".

Its got to be Perodua Nippa thing and Land Cruiser. The later because is totally pointless even by Lardy 4 x 4 standards and the first because it was so popular, eg. how many have you seen?

Jim
Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - No Do$h
Tuscan for reasons already recorded.

Nippa for being an anti-car. Take everything you may enjoy about motoring and remove it whilst still technically producing a car and you get the Nippa.

In keeping with our slightly more famed BB members, I would like to totally change my nominations from last week. (One has gone anyway, so...)

On daay wuun, of week two, (oh hell ta for the tips on the last thread Morris but it's just not working for me is it?) I nominate firstly the 2CV for what I have read here about its crumplyness, despite its outer charm, and

The Peugeot 405 just because I have failed to be impressed by it. A really mediocre car, but all the owners seem to think it's fantastic.

Let's hope the new garage meayte doesn't try any underbonnet tactics and get vooted off streeyte awaay.

I will stop attemptimg the accent when the novelty wears off for me, and that will be very soon, don't worry.

Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - Morris Ox
No contest. Perodua Kipper and the All aggro. The kipper because it doesn't do anything a 2CV doesn't, the aggro because it was a cynical Leyland mongrel right from the start.

Out with it I say, quartic steering wheel an' all.
Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - Nsar
Ha, ha very funny the Allegro, everyone's worst car and of course it was, but in a society of angels there must still be criminals and that is the Allegro's role; to be a warning to others, ergo it fulfills a valuable function.

Still the 156 and the Leon for being so unuttterably "near-cars." Like something, but then watered down after a rogue focus group came back with an odd result - "better increase the blandness...you can't be too safe you know"

I know this isn't the right thread for this but I can't not say anything...

How on earth can you call the 156 'bland'???? If you don't like it fair enough but bland??? Near car????

in the style of Mr T.... "shut up yo' crazee foo'" ;-)

The Austin UGLY, especially if it has one of those odd shaped squarish/roundish steering wheels!
The TVR 'cos it's a pointless car!

Big Brother’s Garage - Round two. - BobbyG
Tuscan and Land Cruiser.
Would love to have the money to afford to buy them new. However, if I did have that amount of money, I wouldn't buy these!
Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - andymc {P}
The Allegro - naff, naff, utterly naff. Also because the All Aggro Princess was championed on Driven a year or two ago by one of the more annoying housemates who stayed in till the end. By strange coincidence, he also seemed to be an all aggro princess.

Hmm - Mondeo or 405? The Mondeo is probably less troublesome to own, while the 405 may have had slightly (but only slightly) more style in its day than the Mondeo has now. If I look at it from the perspective of a banger buyer, I guess if this pair were my only choices I'd rather put my precious money on a Mondeo. So, bye-bye 405.

PS I really haven't been watching BB this year - I just couldn't face it any more. I'm pleased to say that I don't know any of the names of the contestants. I've caught it by accident about twice, and both times everybody just seemed to be forcing themselves to scream hysterically. I already get that at work ....

Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - Altea Ego
The Peruda Nipper, because 1/ its still there 2/ Its still useless

The Austin Allaggro. How the hell did that sneak in? Was it disguised? More to the point where did they find one still running to get there? The Vanden Plas version was trully horrible.
Big Brother’s Garage - Round two. - AngryJonny
I'd love to vote for the Allegro, but I can't. My Dad had one when I was a wee nipper and there are too many memories of family holidays associated with it. It was an HLS, with the twin headlights. Special. Anyway, it'd be like voting out an old friend.

So... my vote for the 405 still stands for the reasons mentioned in the last round.

I also vote for the Perodua. Buy one new and it's worth less than a grand in 3 years. There's a reason for that. It is pants. At least a 2CV had some kind of sense of fun associated with it. Just turning the key in the Perodua would suck the very soul out of you.

Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - AR-CoolC
I'm with NW on this.

Surely the Tuscan wins hands down, with the 156 second.

Just look at them!!!!!!!!!!

The Tuscan is beautiful. In many ways its like the perfect girlfriend.
Great to look at
All your mates would be jelous of you
A bit tempremental to keep you in check
A real handful
Makes all the right noises

Just don't marry here otherwise those wonderful noises will turn into a whine.

Anyway my votes are.

Perodua Nippa, beacause it is simply horrible.

2CV, because my sister had one on the grounds thay they are enviromentaly freindly whilst going through an "earth mother" stage.
Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - just a bloke
*doing little dance of joy that the stupid Golf got evicted and hoping that like all early evictees it will now fade into justified obscurity*

Ok
1) landcruiser... as before
2) Leon - Alfa wannabe

JaB
Big Brother’s Garage - Round two. - apm
Gosh, this IS fun.
I'll stick with the Landcruiser, same reasons as before.

Now the Vectra has gone, I reckon the mondeo or 405. The mondeo represents the death of individuality- the epitome of the car merely as a form of transport philosophy. Automotive equivalent of grey. The 405 is outdated, sure, but many diesels are soldiering on as taxis, ferrying the kebab-clutching drunk home of a friday evening, a worthy task. But it is the antecedent of the 407, wrongness in vehicular form. Basking-shark?

OK, I vote for the 405.

Alex.

PS Disagree with the Leon bashers (I would, wouldn't I?). More exiting than a golf, more reliable than an Alfa, exhibiting qualites of both. Surely a good thing?

1. Citroen 2CV
2. Austin Allegro
Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - Roberson
My nominations this week are:

1. Ford Mondeo (Same reasons as last week: dull automotive rubbish)

2. Toyota Landcruser. Not the most pleasning of shapes on the road even though it is probably quite reliable and good at what it does.

Unlike everone else, I don't want the Allegro out. It did sell 650 000, same as the Escort MK2 (more than 2m worldwide though) and more than the Chevette. But it also was a brave effort with a host of 'new' features, whereas the Ford philosophy of repackaging old technology continued. Even though the Escort and Chevette worked, and the Allegro supposidly didn't.

Eh up! You've deleted my nominations as well as my suggestion!
In case you haven't already got it recorded I nominated the 2CV (over-polluting hippi-mobile) and the Nippa (get SO much more car for the money 2nd hand).

I hadn't, but they've now been included.

Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - helicopter
Fower O Faive PM - Helicoopter finailly deceeds to entair the game and maike his noominashuns . Howay now.

Austin Allegro - Absolute worst of British.

Citroen 2CV - French upturned pram made of currogated iron - They had a rally going to Brighton the other week - must have seen 100 of them one after the other - whatever possesses people to buy them?

Right , Im gannin back to woark.

Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - trancer
Perodua Nippa- because its still ugly even with a correctly spelled name.

Austin Allegro- because its a newcomer and we can't have newbies waltzing in at the 11th hour. Not when the rest of the cars have weathered the rough times and earned the right to be there.
Big Brother’s Garage - Round two. - v0n
Mondeo - The big mac among cars. Plus it's fugly.

Austin Allegro - something disturbing and wrong about this newcomer. I know the kind.
Big Brother’s Garage - Round two. - Febus
Out!

Allegro- That quartic wheel isn't fooling anyone

Perodua Nippa- it's cheap but it sucks (perhaps good attributes in one's date for the evening but in a car??????)
Big Brother’s Garage - Round two. - Hugo {P}
Allegro, because that heap of junk was just the leftovers of all the bad bits from all the other A series engined cars!

Toyota LandCruiser, because it's not built by Landrover :)

2CV because it is a death trap on modern roads.

H

Hugo,

That's three cars you've nominated, which means your votes are void.

What part of "nominate two cars for eviction." are you finding difficult to understand ;o)

You're welcome to renominate, btw.

The mundano, for being an example of a car with no character

and the Landcruiser, cos its driven by too many people that cringe if it gets slightly muddy

I read often, only post occasionally
Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - Avant
Austin Allegro - because it was one of the worst missed opportunities which helped to kill off the British motor industry. We wanted a hatchback (smaller than the Maxi) to succeed the 1100 and we got something which - from the customer's point of view, whatever BL said, was no advance on the 1100 and ugly too. People bought VW Golfs instead.

Perodua Nippa - because for the price a year-old Ford Ka would do the job so much better. Still 2 years' warranty left, and they are a hoot to drive.
Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - lezebre
Rustin Allaggro

Landcruiser - you'll feel safe, others won't
Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - AN Other
Landcruiser - too big, too ugly, too useless.

Seat Leon - boring VW clone attempt to wring even more sales out of one chassis. Boring.

I couldn't nominate the Nippa - I just think I'd enjoy thrashing it too much! The Allegro is hopeless, but has underdog status here...
Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - commerdriver
1. Austin Allegro - start of the downhill slide for BMC

2. Citroen 2 CV - those seats were unbelievable you could get backache in less than 10 minutes of a journey

To bring you up to date, so far there is one car that is virtually *guaranteed* eviction. There are also three other cars, which total votes are too close to call at the moment.

Round two voting closes at around 18:30 today.

Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - Mapmaker
I have very fond memories of my mother's bright yellow Allegro estate. IIRC, it was about 4k, new, T-reg. Needed a new engine within 5k miles as it absolutely drank oil. Final reason for sale 6 years later - prodigious oil consumption & clouds of black smoke every morning.

Please may I have an 'unvote' for the Allegro estate?

I should also like to complain that the Dyane (as originally billed (mother had one of those as well - replaced by the Allegro)) has been replaced by the 2CV...

Anyway, if I have to vote: TVR - pointless & expensive. Landbruiser - likewise.

Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - dilbert

1. Landcruiser: Ugly, pointless, rude.
2. SEAT Leon. Not the real thing. Like buying supermarket own-brand cornflakes. You wanted a Golf, but you were too tight to pay for it.....

Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - tunacat
This time,

Got to be the 405 - it was good, but not 'outstanding', like the Allegro was.

And the Leon. Many say it's better than the Golf anyway, but for a cheaper golfalike there's always the even-roomier Octavia, and in its segment the Leon is still overall not as good as a Focus.
Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - Mark (RLBS)
here's where we find out that the R5 has only pretended to leave the BB garage and is sitting in a rental garage somewhere watching everything on television and will be returned to the BB garage.

I'm voting on behalf of the Landcruiser which has driven over the top of everything else, rendering all of them damaged but in particular the Nippa and the Allegro which are U/S and therefore there is no point in keeping them in, especially since they were both rubbish to start with.

Although, as I remember from my youth, there was quite a lot of room in the back of an Allegro.

Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - Stargazer {P}
Mark...was that the estate version? Always reminded me of a hearse.

I vote for the Allegro, always hated the look when I was a kid.

and the Pug 405...over-rated reps car.

Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - Mark (RLBS)

No, but I was so much more supple in those days.
Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - Mapmaker
Whoever heard of a 3 door estate car? But I remember I could get into the back seat without having to tilt the front seat forwards.
Big Brother’s Garage - Round two. - NowWheels
OK, there's just time to vote, but not really enuf time to count up the tally for my tactical votes to keep the TVR in the running for the prize.

However, a quick scan gives me a rough idea, so my eviction votes go to the Landcruiser and the Perodua Nippa.

I think that the Allegro is probably ahead of both of them ... but it ranks as such a monumental failure that I hope it survives at least one vote before meeting its doom.
Big Brother?s Garage - Round two. - Dynamic Dave

For info, The Perodua Nippa (14 votes), and the Allegro (20 votes), have been evicted.

There was one more car which almost got evicted, but scraped through by the skin of it\'s teeth. I won\'t mention which one it was in case it influences the voting in the next round.
