Model History

July 2007

Dodge Nitro was the brand’s first mid-size SUV based on the Dodge Nitro concept unveiled at the 2005 Chicago Autoshow. In UK from July 2007.

Five-seater SUV "with distinctive styling, sporty performance and a very flexible interior." Right-hand drive versions of Nitro in the UK in mid 2007 with petrol and diesel engines.

Safety, security and convenience features include ‘Load ‘N Go’ rear floor cargo system.” One petrol and one diesel engine together with a 4x4 drivetrain to provide customers with a safe, confident drive on slippery or loose surfaces and in poor weather conditions such as heavy rain and snow. All-new 2.8-litre common rail turbo diesel engine is four-cylinder, in-line available with a six-speed manual transmission or five-speed automatic transmission and is expected to account for more than 90 per cent of UK sales. Maximum power is 174 bhp and peak torque is 339 lb.-ft with a fuel economy figure of 30.1 mpg. The 3.7-litre SOHC V-6 petrol engine with an automatic gearbox provides performance of 203 bhp and 232 lb.-ft. of torque.

What to watch out for

30-12-2013:

On 25k mile 4 year old Dodge Nitro one of the engine mountings broke. Replaced by independent mechanic at cost of £300 after 3 week wait for the part. FIAT refused to contribute.

23-05-2014:

Starting problems with Nitro 2.8 diesel led to replacement of 2 injectors, crank sensor and camshaft sensor, but problem persists.
