Recommissioning a Mk1 Golf Cabrio
I own a Mk1 Volkswagen Golf convertible which was last started 16 years ago! It has been kept in a garage since then. Apart from buying a new battery and fuel are there any other precautions to be taken before I attempt to start it?

Don't even attempt to start this car. The fuel will be badly degraded and the tank may be rusted inside out (later mk II Golfs had a composite tank). The brake discs will be badly rusted. Brake pipe will be rusted. Fuel lines will have degraded. Needs proper recommissioning by an independent VW specialist.
