Corsa 1.3 CDTi with intermittent starting fault
I purchased a 2004 Vauxhall Corsa 1.3 CDTi five weeks ago from used car dealer. From the moment I got the car, it has had intermittent starting problems. I have returned to the garage five times now and no faults have been found. The garage now says there’s no fault and there’s nothing they can do.
The only connection we can make is that, when it is not starting, there is no noise coming from the lift pump in the fuel tank, but when it is starting it whirrs and gurgles away before start up.
The garage I bought the car from is not interested in my findings and have told me to take it somewhere else and they'll pay the bill. Any ideas?

Pretty simple, really. The car doesn't work. So back it to the dealer who sold it to you. You can check the law here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
The problem is probably the fuel tank lifter pump, its earth, the fuel tank lifter pump relay, its earth or an airleak into the fuel system somewhere. If you desperately want to keep the car, take it to a diesel injection specialist.
